The course consists of a set of printed lessons and an accompanying CD. The course is divided into five modules. The first four modules tackle the basics of the Spanish language and provide broad coverage of the five topic areas identified by the Edexcel specification. The fifth module extends this coverage to focus on speaking and listening skills.

Within each module you will find a number of lessons which contain explanations and activities to get you thinking about and using the language as much as possible. At the end of many of the lessons there is a tutor marked assignment (TMA). You should send your answers to these assignments to your tutor, who will return them to you with comments, marks and a set of ‘model’ answers.

HOME STUDY SUPPORT

Effective learning is encouraged through frequent activities and self-assessment questions, and there is guidance for the preparation of coursework.

You will be provided with comprehensive materials designed to provide you with everything required to complete your course of study. You will have your own personal tutor helping you with your course work and with any questions you may have. Your tutor will give you various resource sites to visit and there is extra material in the student support portal.

COURSE ASSESSMENT

For each module there are two or three formal tutor-marked assessments which, when completed, should be sent to your tutor, via e-mail or conventional post. All of the information within the units is written in line with the requirements of the examination board specification and the demands of the examination.

All units are broken down into clear subject topics, and students should spend the amount of time studying for each topic as advised by their course tutor. Each topic module has been written for ease of understanding and topic coverage may be of different length and difficulty depending on the level of detail and information required. You will need to study the modules in the sequence provided.

COURSE RESOURCES

The Audio CD which accompanies this course is designed to be used with some of the exercises and tests in Module Five: Speaking and Listening Skills.

It should be possible to listen to this CD as long as you have an audio-CD player, or other compatible equipment. You will need to be able to stop and start the recording, rewind, etc. You may prefer to copy the contents of the CD on to an audio-tape (cassette) and listen to that instead – it’s up to you.

Section One of the CD contains exercises which will help you develop your skills in understanding spoken Spanish and increase your confidence in speaking the language. Section Two consists of a past GCSE listening test, which will give you valuable practice in the skills required by this part of the examination.

HOME STUDY ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This course is openly available to anyone wishing to learn more about Spanish and would like to take part in a highly rewarding home study course. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and study further, so we try to keep our entry requirements to a minimum.

You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 24 months from initial registration with full tutor support.

COURSE FEES

The enrolment fee for the IGCSE Spanish home study course is £368.75, though for a limited time we are offering you the opportunity to pay only £295 which is a 20% discount if you enrol online and pay in full.

You can also opt for our Easy Payment Plan and enrol online today by paying a deposit of £73.75 and then 4 equal payments of £73.75 per month. The first instalment is paid about a month after you receive your course.

QUALIFICATION

IGCSE Spanish

Assessment is by two written examinations. Paper 1 (Listening) lasts 35 minutes and Paper 2 (Reading and Writing) lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.

Students can also be entered for the optional speaking examination. This speaking examination, Paper 3, will be assessed separately from Paper 1 and Paper 2. The grade awarded for this optional assessment will be reported separately on the student’s final certificate.
